Saved By the Nell

Anyone who watches “Ally McBeal” knows the lithe lawyer has a thing for short skirts. This season, her hemline has crept up an inch, simultaneously defying fashion trends and the law of gravity (how does she sit down?).
In this week’s episode, Ally is shocked when a judge demands that she dress more modestly or be held in contempt. With the permission of her client, played by “Three’s Company” favorite John Ritter, she returns to court in a mini and faces the max — even after winning her case.
To prove her point, she unpins her hair and removes her jacket midstatement, transforming herself into a supermodel before the judge’s eyes. Her convincing words, punctuated by her golden locks and sexy sleeveless shirt, are enough to spring Ally from the slammer.
