Bubble lights? Old fashioned “Flexible Flyer” sled? Fiestaware? Fun, funky, and the ’50s and ’60s come to mind when I think back to the holidays of my youth which featured all of those things. Get sets of the large, colorful outdoor lightbulbs (nightlight-size) and do some time traveling with your decorating!

A light-up Santa Claus or other lit figure can help set the mood for this flashback theme. Put a lava lamp (or two) in your entryway, and bubble lights on the Christmas tree or at least on a tabletop tree.

You can even find bubble light nightlights these days to carry your kitschy theme to bedrooms and baths. Decorate a wreath with all of the game pieces for incomplete games and set up a game area for fun. Don’t forget to put a train set under the Christmas tree either!

Set aside a spot of honor for a family photo gallery featuring all of those fun (and funny!) pictures from your youth. Your kids will get a kick out of it, anyhow! Now get out your fondue pot, turn on “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” and get set for a memory-filled holiday!
